Grady Wallace, the general manager of the new Fairfield Inn hotel in Van, was a guest speaker Feb. 7 at the monthly Van Area Chamber of Commerce Luncheon downtown at the Movie House. Wallace announced that the target date for the opening of the new hotel is Tuesday, May 9. The 74-unit hotel will feature a meeting room, an indoor pool and a workout facility.

Mal Fowler and his wife, Emma, stand next to the Class 2A State Championship plaque that Fowler and his coaching staff and players received at Van High School in 1979. Fowler was the head coach of the state championship squad in Van that finished the season undefeated.
