Motorcycle Cops Make Ride Through County
Recently the Tyler Chapter of The Blue Knights motorcycle organization made a tour through Van Zandt County. The group made stops throughout the county during the ride.
The Blue Knights is a non-profit fraternal organization consisting of active and retired law enforcement men and women who enjoy riding motorcycles.
Texas Ranger Kenny Ray, who is originally from Grand Saline, is a member of the group and organized the tour.
"I was so proud to be able to put this ride together. It was a special thing to bring this group to a place that is so special to me," said Ray.
Other members of the group from Van Zandt County include Tyler Police Officers J.D. Smith and Mike Goode, Sean Parrish who is an investigator in the Smith County Adult Probation Office and David Smith who is a Van Zandt County Precinct 4 Deputy Constable.
Tyler Police Officer Richard Cashell serves as president of the group.
"We are such a united group and that is for several reasons. First of all our jobs unite us but our love of motorcycles unite us as well," said Cashell.
"We get together and fellowship and share what we love to do," said Cashell.
Cashell did say however, that the group is not all about its members. It is also a service organization.
"We are involved in many different efforts and we try to look for things that might go unnoticed," said Cashell.
He said for example, the group is involved with Mission Tyler, which is a church based group that works on construction projects.
"They may rebuild a burned house, build a ramp for a handicapped person or may work on a project for someone that just needs help at the time. They provide the materials and we can provide the labor," said Cashell.
The Blue Knights are committed to promoting a positive image of law enforcement, motorcycling, and promoting a strong family unit through motorcycling as a sport. The Blue Knights is a family fraternity. Spouses and children often accompany members to the various rides and functions.
