Lady Bulldogs Win In Overtime; Bulldogs Undefeated In District
EDGEWOOD—The Edgewood Lady Bulldogs advanced to the Area round of the playoffs after a 43-40 overtime win over Mt. Pleasant Chapel Hill.
Edgewood had to overcome a big first half deficit, trailing by as much as 24-10 in the second quarter. The Lady ’Dogs closed to within 24-14 by the buzzer, and outscored Chapel Hill by a 21-11 margin in the second half.
"We just kept playing and crawled back into it slowly but surely," head coach Kyle Sharp said. "Then we had to overcome another dagger in overtime."
That dagger was a 3-point shot by Krum that put the Lady Bulldogs in a tight spot. Edgewood went on to outscore Krum 8-2 the rest of the to get the win.
Ashley Kay and Jazmine Dunn combined to score 25 points, as the two poured in 13 and 12 respectively. Dominique Lyons and Desireé Hernandez each scored seven, and Ashley Stallings added four.
Bulldogs Finish Undefeated District Run
The string of 100-point games came to a stop, but the victories did not, as the Edgewood boys completed a 12-0 district championship season.
Against Alba-Golden on February 8, junior guard Weston Jameson scored 22 in the first half, and totaled 34 in a 77-48 win. Justin King added 16 points and Darrius Rogers had 11 for the ’Dogs as they built a 41-21 halftime lead.
Trey Prater scored six, Colten Humphries and Chase Sage had four apiece, and Kyle Simmons added two.
Edgewood finished the regular season with an 88-47 win over Quitman. Jameson again outscored the opponent in the first half, putting up 19 to Quitman’s 15. King shot 6-of-6 from the line in the first quarter and 2-of-3 in the fourth, scoring 18 total.
Humphries was 7-of-8 at the line, scoring a total of 13 for the game, and Jason Knotts scored 15. The scoring was rounded out by Rogers with eight, Aaron McClellan with five, and Chase Sage, four.
