Vandals Have Hold On Second In Playoff Race

The Vandals ran their district record to 6-3 with a pair of 3-2 wins over Athens and Canton, then traveled to Chapel Hill on Tuesday for the season finale and a chance to secure second place in District 14-3A.

Hosting Athens on April 15, the Vandals took a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the third, only to have Athens tie the score in the fourth. Van then scored the winning run in the bottom of the inning.

Allan Dike was 2-for-3 at the plate, and picked up a save as Chance Cotton got the win by giving up one run in four innings. Blake Pennington contributed with two hits and a stolen base.

Dike got the start against Canton and went the distance, allowing one earned run on three hits, and striking out seven.

Van scored single runs in the first, third and broke a 2-2 tie in the bottom of the seventh to get the win. Zach Harrison was 3-for-3 at the plate with two stolen bases, and Pennington was 1-for-3 with an RBI.
