New hotel part of a business boom in Van?
Is Van shaping up to be a Van Zandt County boomtown? If so, a new Fairfield Inn opening in May at Interstate 20 and FM 314 may be just the first step in a wave of development that Charles West foresees.
West is Van’s city manager and director of the Van Economic Development Board. He sees the 74-room hotel as a catalyst for more growth.
Van got a boost when a new Love’s Travel Stop opened at that intersection, and it is now bringing with it the hotel. With a lot of people staying overnight, they might be interested in checking out Van’s downtown, only about a mile off the highway.
The hotel, opening May 9, has a pool, meeting room space, and a workout facility. It will employ some 22 people.
West said Van’s downtown businesses are hopeful that they will benefit from the hotel’s overnight guests, and he believes efforts to improve downtown, through grants for sidewalk improvements, will help draw new businesses and customers into the heart of Van.
