Dunn anticipating another busy summer at Van ISD

We are looking at another very busy summer. Believe it or not, this summer may even be busier than the summer following the tornado. While the work done during the summer of 2015 was mostly reactionary, this summer is filled with coordination and exact deadlines. The only thing both have in common is the hard and fast date for completion of August 1.

Everything must be finished by this date in order to turn our buildings over to our teachers so they can prepare their rooms for the first day of school. Here is the list of items we are working to complete by August 1:

  • Complete construction of J.E. Rhodes Elementary School - Our new school is roughly 98% complete.  Crews are working on final details and are scheduled to wrap up their final clean up this week.  The school is absolutely beautiful and will be an amazing home for our youngest Vandals.
  • Move J.E. Rhodes Elementary Teachers from the intermediate campus to the new J.E. Rhodes Elementary School -  We have hired a moving company to help our teachers box up the entire contents of their classrooms.  Our teachers will label their boxes with their new room number and the moving company will transfer their boxes to their new classrooms.  Our teachers had everything boxed up and ready to move last Tuesday.  The movers are now waiting for crews to complete the final clean up at J.E. Rhodes Elementary before they move our elementary teachers into their new homes.
  • Clean and paint the Van Intermediate School classrooms -  Once the teachers’ boxes are moved to the new J.E. Rhodes Elementary School, our custodial and maintenance crews must go into the evacuated classrooms to clean and shampoo the carpets as well as complete any necessary touch-up painting.  This must be done quickly because we cannot move our Vandal Village teachers back into these classrooms until this process is completed.
