Third time was the charm for second annual car show

Ron Gorman from RG Car Shows of Lindale and Beverly Vinson of Lufkin stand with the Best of Show award announced last Saturday at the second annual car show sponsored by the Van United Methodist Church. The winning entry was a 1958 Corvette Sting Ray. The event was held in the parking lot of the church.

After weather-related cancellations in April and May, the Van United Methodist Church finally held its second annual car show Saturday in the church parking lot.

Over 70 cars were entered in the competition along with several others that were just brought for show.

The classics filled the entire parking lot and were quite an attraction to those who came to see the cars and support the 12 vendors to make the day a great success.

Van City Councilman Ernie Burns provided a miniature train to the delight of the younger crowd as it circled through the parking lot allowing the children on board to view the vehicles as they passed by. Crazy Aunt Mary the Clown made balloon animals for the kids.

Cars displayed ranged in age from the 1930‘s to the present decade. Ron Gorman from RG Car Shows of Lindale produced the event sponsored by the church which served as a “bridge” to the residents of the Van community from the Van UMC.
