VZC elected officials to receive salary raise

The Van Zandt County Commissioners Court discussed and considered setting salaries for VZC elected officials during a meeting held on Aug. 18. The rise in salaries would become effective Oct. 1, 2021.

The county judge’s salary would increase by $2,728, with the salary at $57,278; county clerk, increase of $2,449, salaried at $48,981; tax collector, $2,449, salaried at $51,430; county treasurer, increase of $2,449, salaried at $51,430; district clerk, $2,449, salaried at $51,430; county court at law judge, increase of $3,034, salaried at $63,717; Commissioner Pct. 1, increase of $2,449, salaried at $51,430; Commissioner Pct. 2, increase of $2,449, salaried at $51,430; Commissioner Pct. 3, increase of $2,449, salaried at $51,430; Commissioner Pct. 4, increase of $2,449, salaried at $51,430; Justice of the Peace Pct. 1, increase of $2,105, salaried at $44,199; Justice of the Peace Pct. 2, increase of $2,105, salaried at $44,199; Justice of the Peace Pct. 3, increase of $2,105, salaried at $44,199; Justice of the Peace Pct. 4, increase of $2,105, salaried at $44,199; Constable Pct. 1, increase of $1,973, salaried at $41,428 and VZC Sheriff, increase of $2,728, salary at $57,278.

County Judge Don Kirkpatrick stated that the salaries would reflect a 5 percent increase. The court approved the salary increase.

The commissioners also:

—approved and ratified the county bills:

—held a public hearing on the matter of the proposed budget for FY ending Sept. 20, 2022, and also approved to modify the proposed budget. The final budget is not set as of yet;

—Discussed a revision of Lot 14 in the Albright Addition in Precinct 3. The county follows state subdivision laws. In a related matter, the court also approved the revision of Lot 35 in the Canaan Lands Subdivision in Precinct 3;

—Discussed proposals that were submitted for a new chiller system or the replacement of the evaporative cooler at the main courthouse. The proposal that was accepted was in the amount of $153,603.

—Proposals from Southern Software in the amount of $4,250 and LGS for $2,800 for the interfacing systems between the VZC Jail and the VZC District Attorney’s Office were approved;

—Approved an interlocal agreement between the VZC Fire Marshal and Rains county for the fire inspection of the Rains County Jail;

—Authorized interlocal agreements between VZC Pct. 1 Road & Bridge and Grand Saline ISD as well as Road & Bridge Pct. 1.

The commissioners court will meet at 9 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 1, in the commissioners courtroom at the VZC Courthouse.
