Services for Ruth B. Reid, 92, of Martins Mill, were held Thursday, April 25, 2024, at Eubank Funeral Home in Canton. Interment was in Holly Springs Cemetery.

Mrs. Reid passed away Sunday, April 21, 2024, in Canton. She was born November 11, 1931, in Vernon to George Washington and Mary Frances McGhee Blankenship.

Ruth attended the University of North Texas at Denton and studied Business Administration. She was the fi rst female contract administrator specializing in mili- tary night vision scopes at Varo Inc. While working for Varo, she enjoyed writing and acting in company picnic plays. Ruth had lived in Martins Mill for the past 42 years. She was a member of Heritage Trail Cowboy Church. Ruth was active in fundraising for the Martins Mill Volunteer Fire Department. She played key- board with her husband in a fi ve-member band called the ‘Steel Wheels’ at various Texas opry’s. She played mandolin in bluegrass music parks around the south. Ruth was a happy and active person; always kind and giving. She loved to sing, work in her garden, and crochet. One of her greatest joys was found in getting together with family and friends.

Ruth is preceded in death by her husband, Jack Reid. She is survived by her three daughters: Dee Tanner, Suzie Hill, and Debra Dean and her husband, Bruce; seven grandchildren and their spouses: Austin and Miranda Watkins, Vanessa and Sherman Hudgins, Valerie Mein, Vanita and Lance Tyler, Clyde and Jessica Kempf, Jennifer Still, and Brian Dean; 17 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-granddaughter.
