It is NOT safe to look directly at the Sun without eye protection specialized for solar viewing, except during the brief total phase of a solar eclipse when the sun’s face is completely blocked by the moon.
Use safe solar viewing glasses, (eclipse glasses) or a safe handheld solar viewer when watching the eclipse partial phases, and look away periodically to rest your eyes.
Regular sunglasses, no matter how dark, are NOT safe for viewing the Sun.
